Who suffers if IPL 2020 is cancelled!
There is the fearful situation around the every nation un the globe due to the outbreak of novel Corona Virus. The Covid-19 has all round impact throughout the world; economically, mentally, physically, actually in each and every field. The IPL 2020 was supposed to begin frim March 29 but it was postponed, don't know for how long, due to Covid-19. The future of IPL 2020 has been a trending topic in the cricketing world as it is one of the biggest cricket events. The graph of the Covid-19 is increasing in India and considering that situation Government has extended Lockdown up to May 3. People were looking for the May window but now we lost that window too. So, there is no any certainty of the IPL 2020. And I think it's not right to think about IPL in such miserable situation though many will suffer because of cancellation of IPL. Here I have made a list of them who will incur big loss if IPL 2020 is cancelled.
Who suffers if IPL 2020 is cancelled!
- BCCI: BCCI is the controller of the cricket in India. So, I think BCCI is the first to incur loss. BCCI would receive 3000 crores from star sports and about 1000 crores from the advertisements. That total 4000 crores was supposed to be divided between Franchises and the BCCI. The cricket in India depends on the BCCI, so that money was to be used for the betterment of cricket in India, let's say; for infrastructure building, development of young players, domestic cricket etc. Now this will not happen. And even the brand value of the IPL may decrease as a result of which the brand value of BCCI will decline.
- Franchises: The teams will be next to incur loss due to IPL cancellation. There were supposed to receive certain money from BCCI, jersey sponsors, gate receipts etc. So there will be the loss of about 300 crores to the franchises. Besides earnings, they would have to spend for the players fees, hotels, flights, camps etc which won't occur if IPL is cancelled even though they will lose about 100-150 crores which is very sad looking at the franchises situation in the past years of IPL.
- Star Sports: Star sports had to pay certain amount of money to the BCCI but only if IPL happened. So there is no IPL and no money should be paid. But Star sports will bear a great deal of money from business point of view. It would have been the trending channel, the TRP rating would increase, earnings from advertising etc.
- Players: I think players will bear loss economically as well as career wise. There are many players who doesn't have contract with the BCCI and are playing in IPL. They were sold for small sum of money. The players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ben stokes etc may not suffer economically but the uncapped players will bear a huge loss for sure, as they might have planned something with that money and they don't earn much. In case of career, IPL has always been a turning point in the career of the players. Perform well in IPL and got selected in the nationals has been a trend, and if IPL is cancelled they have to wait. Surplus, the future of players like Ms Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Shikhar Dhawan etc in the upcoming T20 WC depends on the IPL performance.
- Commentators: The commentators, broadcasting team, anchors, etc get paid based on their working hours. And I think they don't have much to lose but somehow their loss also cannot be ignored.
- Freelancers: There are many people working daily to make the event successful. They get paid based on their work and such events are their income sources. If there is no IPL, there won't be a event manager and people working under him would go unemployed. Similarly, many people working in the field, out of the field, security guards, working centrally with BCCI, locals in different states etc will bear loss. Besides, the people or the street vendors out of the stadium, such events is like Diwali to them, they will bear loss.
- Fans: Last but not the least, Fans. They don't have much to lose economically however they will feel sad if IPL is cancelled. They waited a year for this event to happen, to see their favourite player un action, a different enthusiasm is there in the fans. It is like a festival to them. Especially the fans of MSD, as they have not seen him in action after WC. IPL is in that level because of the fans, so fans cannot be ignored. Their feelings also have to be respected.
Beside the above mentioned peoples or sectors, there are so many things that get affected if IPL is cancelled because there are so many factors associated with such huge events.
Even if the IPL is cancelled this year, we should not feel bad because IPL can happen next year but we have got one life only. So, be safe and if we live we can watch many upcoming IPL seasons.
